1. Have Crossrail electrical installations been designed, installed, tested, inspected and certificated to the requirements of BS7671?
2. If so, what version/s of BS7671 are the installations compliant with?
3. If the answer is yes to the above, are there any intended departures from the regulations on any of the electrical installations and if so, are the required risk assessments in place assuring that the resulting degree of safety of the installations is not less than that obtained by compliance with the Regulations?
The following extract is from BS7671:
“120.3 This Standard sets out technical requirements intended to ensure that electrical installations conform to the fundamental principles of Chapter 13, as follows:
Part 3 Assessment of general characteristics
Part 4 Protection for safety
Part 5 Selection and erection of equipment
Part 6 Inspection and testing
Part 7 Special installations or locations.
Any intended departure from these Parts requires special consideration by the designer of the installation and shall be noted on the Electrical Installation Certificate specified in Part 6. The resulting degree of safety of the installation shall be not less than that obtained by compliance with the Regulations.”

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

Can you please provide me information whether Crossrail electrical installations are claiming compliance with BS859 2010 or able to list and justify any deviations as shown from extract from BS8519
We can confirm that the design of Crossrail electrical installations are, and have been, developed to comply with the Statutory Instruments Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 Guidance Note 3: Fire safety on sub-surface railway stations.
In compliance with this order we have used the guidance where necessary included within BS8519.

We can confirm that Crossrail has been designed in compliance with the 17th edition of the IET Wiring Regulations BS7671. Not all locations have been completed but those that have are compliant for the installation and testing with17th edition of the IET Wiring Regulations BS7671 excluding departures. The only departure listed so far is with the UPS system.
