Request ID: FOI-2822-2223 Date published: 15 February 2023
You asked
I note the announcement in recent months that bus route 64 will begin a new seven year operating contract starting from 26th August 2023. I also note that the "peak vehicle requirement" will be reduced to 17 vehicles, down from the current 21 vehicle requirement. Will the frequency of bus route 64 be reduced from the current 8 buses per hour (Monday to Saturday day times) and if so, how will co-ordination be maintained with Tramlink route 3 (which also runs at 8 trams per hour) for passengers living in the many parts of New Addington that are remote from tram stops, who use route 64 to reach the tram stops? Or is it proposed to also reduce the frequency of service on Tramlink route 3 to match a reduced frequency on bus route 64?

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 31st October 2023 asking for information about bus route 64 and London Trams.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“I note the announcement in recent months that bus route 64 will begin a new seven year operating contract starting from 26th August 2023. I can confirm that we are intending to reduce the frequency of route 64 from 8 buses per hour (every 7.5 minutes) to 6 buses per hour during the day Monday to Saturday (every 10 minutes) from 4th March 2023. This is to take account of the current levels of usage. However, we will continue to monitor usage of the network. Given that both bus route 64 and London Trams run as high frequency services there are no formal interworking arrangements, and there are no plans to amend Tram services on account of changes to the 64 bus route.
