Thank you for your request received on 4 December 2024 asking for information about the renaming of the London Overground.

 

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you have requested. Your asked:

 

1.         What was the cost of putting new signs at stations to accommodate the new named London Overground lines?

2.         What was the cost of marketing the new lines in places such as social media or billboards?

3.         What was the cost of updating passenger information screens / speakers to announce the new lines?

 

As the project has not yet concluded we do not hold the final costs. However, information on the estimated costs has previously been published in response to similar requests:

4.         Who made the decisions to name the lines?

 

The London Overground Line naming project was a Mayoral commitment which aimed to give each individual London Overground route its own name and identity. TfL’s Commissioner, Andy Lord, was the ultimate decision maker on the final names. The names were discussed in a series of delivery group and steering group meetings.
