FOI request detail

Elizabeth line and West Ealing Station

Request ID: FOI-2803-2223
Date published: 10 February 2023

You asked

Follow-up to Customer Service correspondence: On point 2 are you able to share the data more. This 90% public performance measure doesn’t seem correct. Are you able to tell me what it was for the months of December and for the first 17 days in January also? From experience the trains are only on time maybe 20% of the time. Other 80% they can be anything from a few minutes to a few hours late. Also are you able to tell me why twice a month trains diner call at west Ealing?

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-2803-2223

Our Customer Services team have passed over your request of 18th January 2023 asking for information about performance on the Elizabeth Line.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

Severe issues with the Elizabeth line and West Ealing Station: On point 2 are you able to share the data more. This 90% public performance measure doesn’t seem correct. Are you able to tell me what it was for the months of December and for the first 17 days in January also? From experience the trains are only on time maybe 20% of the time. Other 80% they can be anything from a few minutes to a few hours late.

Also are you able to tell me why twice a month trains diner call at west Ealing?”

I can confirm that we hold /the information you require.

The attached spreadsheet provides the requested performance data from 1st December 2022 until 6th February 2023. Note that:

  • there are some dates missing as there were no trains running due to engineering works blocking the track. (4 December, 25 December, 26 December, 22 January, 5 February);
  • PPM stands for “Public Performance Measure”– which is the percentage of trains less than 5 minutes late (up to 4 minutes 59 secs).
  • OT stands for “On time” – that is, the percentage of trains within 1 minute of timetabled departure time.

In answer to your last question, there are two pairs of tracks from Paddington through to Reading, called the “Main” and the “Relief” lines. Both have tracks going in each direction. Network Rail undertake regular maintenance of the tracks, and when they do this they take possession of the tracks and the trains are diverted on to the other pair of tracks. When Elizabeth line trains are diverted onto the Main line tracks they are unable to call at West Ealing as there are no platforms for the Main lines at West Ealing that are safe for passenger use.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
