Congestion Charge - appeals due to typo

Request ID: FOI-2776-2122
Date published: 23 March 2022

You asked

In the past 12 months, how many people have called the congestion charge notice number to report that they paid but made a typographical error on their registration number? How many have made effort to appeal? How many have you kept both their £15 payment and the subsequent charge?

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-2776-2122

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7 March 2022 asking for information about the Congestion Charge.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the [Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy.

Unfortunately we do not hold the information you have requested as we do not record that level of detail about the calls into our Contact Centre.

We do have specific business rules in place which allow for the cancellation of a penalty when it can be shown that a motorist inadvertently paid for the wrong vehicle registration. I believe following your further enquiry to us the penalty which you incurred has been cancelled.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
