TfL Ref: 2726-2425
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 25 November 2024 asking for information about grade separation on the A406.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. You specifically asked: I'm seeking any design or business case for junction designs that you hold that have in the past sought to achieve grade separation on A406 junctions between and including the A109 and Great Cambridge Roundabout junctions.
We do not hold the information you have requested. It is noted that there is no timeframe attached to your request, therefore your request potentially covers the entirety of TfL’s existence, and any information held in relation to our predecessor bodies; however, we believe that there were three historic Highways Agency (HA) plans to provide grade separated schemes on A406 in this area – the Henlys Corner, Bounds Green and Green Lanes schemes. We believe that the Henlys Corner and Bounds Green schemes were progressed by the HA as far as selecting the preferred option and securing land via a Compulsory Order Purchase. In 2000, the roads were passed to TfL and the schemes paused.
TfL later reopened the Henlys Corner and Bounds Green grade-separated schemes, and amended the proposals to provide at-grade solutions more in-keeping with our policies. These at-grade solutions were delivered between c.2010-2015 and therefore any information about the grade separated solutions we held at the time which we believe to be paper copies only of the HA public consultation drawings of the proposed grade-separated solutions is now no longer held in line with our document retention policy which is for 7 years. We don’t believe that TfL took forward the Green Lanes grade-separated scheme (or an at-grade alternative). We are not aware of any more recent work for grade separated solutions at these locations.
You may want to contact the Highways Agency to see if they hold any information on this: https://nationalhighways.co.uk/site-search/?q=freedom+of+information
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
