We answered
Our Ref: FOI-2710-1718
Thank you for your request received on 20 December 2017 asking for information about buses that have changed their destination.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold some of the information you require.
The causes of curtailments can vary, with factors such as road traffic accidents, roadwork’s, and traffic congestion meaning curtailment is required to help regulate a service. The Big Red Book, issued to all bus drivers, provides guidance on what drivers should do if their bus is curtailed. If the bus destination is changed after a passenger has boarded and paid, a transfer voucher is available from the bus driver. This allows passengers, who now need to change buses, to complete their planned journey without having to pay another fare.
Please find attached the requested information for December 2016 to November 2017 (the latest data available). It has been broken down by calendar month as well as a spreadsheet detailing cumulative totals of the requested period.
Please note that no explanation is given for curtailment reasons in this dataset. However, instances of a high percentage of curtailments could indicate that buses are terminating due to a disruption outside of our control, as mentioned. To ensure high performance standards, we work closely with the bus operating companies who run services on our behalf, to minimise impact to passengers.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please feel free to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
