I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act. I am looking for information about unconscious bias training provided to TfL staff. Please could you provide me with the following: 1. How many Transport for London staff have undergone unconscious bias training over the last five calendar years? Please could you break down the number by year for 2021 (up to and including the end of February), 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017. 2. How much money has been spent unconscious bias training for TfL staff over the last five calendar years? Please could you break down the figure by year for 2021 (up to and including the end of February), 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017. In each case where there has been expenditure on unconscious bias training, please could you state which company the money went to, how much, and the date of the payment. 3. If unconscious bias training has been provided to TfL staff, please could you provide details of the format of the training is - its title, how many hours/days the training lasts, and any other relevant detail which summarises what it entails. 4. If possible, please could you provide a copy of any training material - documentation including, but not limited to, training packs, worksheets, fact sheets etc - distributed to civil servants as part of the unconscious bias training in any of the above years. Please note, if this is not possible, please proceed with the remainder of the request.

Our Ref: FOI-2707-2021 Thank you for your request received on 26 March 2021 asking for information about unconscious bias training. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked for: 1. How many Transport for London staff have undergone unconscious bias training over the last five calendar years? Please could you break down the number by year for 2021 (up to and including the end of February), 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017. Classroom training 2021(0), 2020(0), 2019 (17), 2018 (457), and 2017 (753) E-learning (course purchased as part a wider training package – Litmos Heroes) 2021(755 – up to end of March 2021), 2020 (1454), 2019 (1282), 2018(1126), and 2017 (277) 2. How much money has been spent unconscious bias training for TfL staff over the last five calendar years? Please could you break down the figure by year for 2021 (up to and including the end of February), 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017. In each case where there has been expenditure on unconscious bias training, please could you state which company the money went to, how much, and the date of the payment. Classroom delivery was delivered by an external supplier, Tattersall Training Ltd, on one of our Training frameworks which covers several different types of training. The last payment for Unconscious Bias training was 2 July 2019. If unconscious bias training has been provided to TfL staff, please could you provide details of the format of the training is - its title, how many hours/days the training lasts, and any other relevant detail which summarises what it entails. Please see below for information on the E-learning course: Title: Unconscious Bias – 20 mins This course uses animated explainer videos to tell the story of unconscious bias, and explain how it plays a big part in your life, especially at work. The purpose of this course is to challenge you to create your own unconscious bias action plan. We provide some tools to do this. But, recognising that unconscious bias is a very personal journey, we want to inspire you to reflect on your own biases. Course Content Are you biased? – Discover that you are indeed bias, but don’t worry, so is everyone else. Organisational Bias – Explore case studies that demonstrate how unconscious bias can impact organisations that are actively trying to avoid discrimination. Big Deal – We dispel the myth that bias is no big deal, and show how many different groups are affected. Benefits of Diversity – Diversity is a competitive advantage. Find out why. How to beat it – We give you three takeaway challenges to help you become more aware of your own biases, and how they impact your work. 4. If possible, please could you provide a copy of any training material - documentation including, but not limited to, training packs, worksheets, fact sheets etc - distributed to civil servants as part of the unconscious bias training in any of the above years.
