We answered

Our Ref:          FOI-2679-1819

Thank you for your request received on 14 January 2019 asking for information about bus and taxi emission standards.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

• As of 14th January 2019, please provide a breakdown of the euro emission standard of all bus fleets operating in London, including data on the numbers of alternatively fuelled buses (electric/hydrogen)

Our recently updated bus fleet data for the past business year (2017/18) is published on our website:

https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/bus-fleet-data-and-audits.

The next update will be in spring of this year, for the position up to March 31, 2019. The current number of electric buses is 155.

We estimate that two-thirds of the bus fleet is now at the ultra-clean Euro VI engine emission standard through a combination of vehicle replacement with new buses and an aggressive retrofit programme, and by 2020 we expect all buses in the fleet to be at this level or better. We are also introducing zero-tailpipe-emission buses to help us towards our ultimate target of a zero-emission fleet by 2037 at the latest.

• As of 14th January 2019, please provide a breakdown of the euro emission standard all of London’s black taxi fleet licenced to operate in London, including data on the numbers of pure electric black taxis?

The table below shows the Euro standards for licensed taxis plus how many are zero emission capable (ZEC) or have been converted to use liquid petroleum gas (LPG) as of 1 January 2019. The Euro standard information for licensed taxis is based only on the DVLA registration date we hold for each licensed vehicle.

Further information can be found on our website: https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/taxis-and-private-hire/emissions-standards-for-taxis.
