Hello,
I work as a police prosecutor for traffic offences. I have heard that if a driver gets 12 points on their licence, they lose their ability to drive for the TFL – would this be for bus drivers also?
Can I have a copy of the policy in terms of what happens when bus drivers and taxi drivers receive points on their licence? This will help aid us in guiding defendants as to whether exceptional hardship

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 26th October 2023 asking for information about bus and taxi drivers who receive points on their licence.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:

I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.
TfL does not hold any such policy is respect of bus drivers. Bus drivers are the employees of the private bus companies that operate services under contract with TfL. It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that their drivers hold valid driving licences.
In respect of Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle drivers, please see the policy attached.
