Use of Fastrack (Bus Rapid Transit) Busways for London Buses in Kent

Request ID: FOI-2663-2122
Date published: 25 April 2022

You asked

Dear Transport for London I request for information regarding the use of Fastrack Busways for London Buses in Kent. When did London Buses first start using the Fastrack Busways for routes serving Bluewater Shopping Centre? Can you list the London Bus routes which use the Fastrack Busways? Why TfL wanted London Buses to use the Fastrack Busways? Do TfL pay a fee to Kent County Council or Dartford Borough Council for allowing London Buses to use the Fastrack Busways? If yes, how much? Can you publish the agreement between TfL and Kent County Council or Dartford Borough Council for allowing London Buses to use Fastrack Busways? Which sections of the Fastrack Busways are authorised to be used by London Buses? Do TfL have plans to add more London Bus routes to use Fastrack Busways? Thanks

information regarding the use of Fastrack Busways for London Buses in Kent.

When did London Buses first start using the Fastrack Busways for routes serving Bluewater Shopping Centre?

This began on 16 December 2017.

Can you list the London Bus routes which use the Fastrack Busways?

Bus Route 96 uses Fastrack Busways.

Why TfL wanted London Buses to use the Fastrack Busways?

We can advise that this enables bus 96 to serve Darent Valley Hospital, whilst at the same time not increasing journey times to Bluewater.

Using Fastrack Busways also helps provide a more consistent and reliable service to this service, as it avoids mixing with general traffic.

Please see the requested information attached.

In accordance with TfL’s obligations under Data Protection legislation some personal data has been removed from the attached correspondence, as required by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the legislation, specifically the first principle which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions which would make the processing ‘fair’.

Which sections of the Fastrack Busways are authorised to be used by London Buses?

We are authorised to use the section between Gore Road and Bluewater. We can choose to use intermediary entry and exit points at our bus operating company’s discretion.

Do TfL have plans to add more London Bus routes to use Fastrack Busways?

There are no plans to add any additional TfL services to the Fastrack network.
