TfL Ref: 2654-1920

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 29 November 2019 asking for information about bus driver toilet facilities provided by TfL on the bus network.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require.

Your questions and our responses are as below:

Please, can you tell me how often toilets provided by TfL on the bus network are cleaned?

The toilets are cleaned at least once a day

How is the adequateness determined?

In order to maintain satisfactory standards our contracts set standards for cleanliness for the contractors and include measures for monitoring performance. Any issues are generally reported by bus station staff or by the drivers themselves.

How often in a 24 hour period are they cleaned?

Once in every 24 hour period unless there are any incidents such as leaks/accidents.

How do bus drivers report unclean toilets and what is the process to get resolved of toilets regularly being found dirty and not cleaned?

Within the station or unit there are instructions which provide a number to contact and this is manned 24/7. All cleaning faults are recorded and this data can be analysed to identify any recurring issues and put appropriate measures in place.

Are there cleaning contractors and what contractor is it?

Our primary cleaning contractor is ABM for the majority of our bus driver toilets with a minority currently being cleaned by Conway Aecom.

What is the budget for the cleaning contractor per annum?

Our budget for the cleaning of bus stations, stands and facilities is £2.3million.

Has the budget for cleaning contractors reduced over the last 5 years?

Our cleaning budget for cleaning contractors has not been reduced over the last 5 years.
