You asked
I would like to be provided with statistics showing
1. How many registered taxi's there are currently in London
2. How many of those taxi's are currently 'zero emissions capable' (as defined in the publication at this link: http://content.tfl.gov.uk/taxi-and-private-hire-action-plan-2016.pdf)
3. How many zero emissions taxis have been registered with the Greater London Authority since June 1 2017.
For the avoidance of doubt, my request relates solely to vehicles with London Taxi licenses (ie black cabs), and not to Private Hire Vehicles (PHVs).
We answered
Dear
TfL Ref: FOI-2607-1718
Thank you for your email received on 11 December 2017 asking for information about zero emission capable (ZEC) taxis.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) and our Information Access Policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. I have answered your questions in the order you have asked them.
1. How many registered taxi's there are currently in London
On the week ending Sunday 10 December 2017, we recorded 21,371 licensed taxis.
We regularly publish taxi and private hire licensing figures on our website at the following location: www.tfl.gov.uk/info-for/taxis-and-private-hire/licensing/licensing-information.
2. How many of those taxi's are currently 'zero emissions capable' (as defined in the publication at this link: http://content.tfl.gov.uk/taxi-and-private-hire-action-plan-2016.pdf)
One of the taxis referred to above is ZEC.
3. How many zero emissions taxis have been registered with the Greater London Authority since June 1 2017.
There is currently one licensed ZEC taxi. However a significant number of ZEC taxis will be licensed in the coming weeks as part of new licensing requirements.
The Mayor's Taxi and Private Hire Action Plan sets out how we intend to establish the Capital's taxi fleet as the greenest in the world. We have recently introduced new vehicle licensing requirements to reduce emissions from the taxi fleet by phasing out diesel taxis and increasing the number of Zero Emission Capable vehicles in London. As of 1 January 2018, taxis presented for licensing for the first time will need to be ZEC.
