Follow-on from 2275-1819: Number of London Underground or Overground line did not terminate at the destination that it was given when it left its starting terminus

Request ID: FOI-2599-1819
Date published: 03 June 2019

You asked

I have narrowed my initial request that can be found below. I still require the same criteria of information, but you can just provide it for the District, Circle and London Overground lines. If a train does not terminate at its published terminus – regardless of the reason behind it – it should be included in my request. I would like to know the percentage of trains that did not terminate at their published terminus on these three lines since 1 December 2017 (inclusive). If you cannot provide the percentage, then please just provide me with the number of trains that did not terminate at their published terminus, along with the amount of journeys that took place on these three lines over the same period, and I can work out the percentages myself.

Thank you for your email received by us on 27 December 2018 asking for information about London Underground Circle and District line trains and London Overground trains that did not terminate at the destination that it was given when it left its starting terminus, following your previous request for information (reference: 2275-1819).

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.

Please see the attached London Underground spreadsheet, which includes the percentage of diverted trips, the total number of trips per day multiplied by the appropriate days in each reporting period. Please note that Circle and Hammersmith & City line train data are consolidated for reporting purposes and therefore it is not possible to extract the information you are seeking solely in reference to Circle line trains.

In reference to London Overground trains that did not terminate at the destination that it was given when it left its starting terminus. Whilst we have data available showing trains that ended up being diverted or cancelled short of the terminus location, this is against the agreed ‘Plan of the day’ which is finalised the night before. Therefore we do not know at what point the decision is made, for example if a train had the destination of West Croydon when it left Highbury but during its route had a destination change. The majority of the data we hold would always advertise from Origin as the location it went to, even though this was not the destination agreed at 22:00 the night before. If you would like us to provide this information for London Overground services we will be happy to do so.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
