We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-2588-2021 Thank you for your request of 17th March 2021 asking for information about the deaths of TfL staff. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. Specifically you asked: “I have seen this report - http://content.tfl.gov.uk/initial-assessment-of-london-bus-driver-mortality-from-covid-19.pdf. Can you please send me any reports or analysis produced by or for TfL that is more up to date, including the second wave deaths. Please also send in tabular form and broken down (by sex, ethnicity and age for example) the latest figures for deaths of TfL staff (or partner organisation), for each month since the start of 2020. Show this for Covid deaths but also for deaths due to other causes if you have the data available.” In answer to the first part of your request, please see the following Press Release which provides information on the second part of the UCL study looking at the impact of coronavirus on London bus drivers - note that a link to the full study can be found at the bottom of the page. The Press Release also explains the measures that TfL has taken to mitigate the spread of the virus on buses: https://tfl-newsroom.prgloo.com/news/tfl-press-release-tfl-responds-to-publication-of-world-leading-ucl-research-that-strengthens-the-capitals-fight-against-the-virus In answer to the second part of your request, the first spreadsheet attached (“Covid 19 deaths”) provides the requested information in relation to those staff who have sadly died with Covid-19. Note that given your interest appears to be particularly related to bus drivers, and in line with other data we have released under FOI on this subject, we have included data on bus drivers and other partner organisations within the spreadsheet. However, note that TfL does not directly employ bus drivers. Rather, they are employed by the private operators that operate buses under contract with TfL. The inclusion of bus drivers and others from partner organisations - which totals 68 people working in buses, trams, policing, security and cleaning - accounts for the higher overall numbers when compared to the second spreadsheet (“Death in Service 2020-21 TfL staff”), which provides information on the deaths of staff employed directly by TfL by any cause (we do not hold comparable data for non-TfL staff). If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation. Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed. Yours sincerely, David Wells FOI Case Officer FOI Case Management Team General Counsel Transport for London
