A list of road users (pedestrians or otherwise) killed or seriously injured whilst using the road commonly referred to as 'Elephant and Castle' - since the removal of the roundabout. (i.e. New Kent Road, A201 between junctions Meadow Row, Newington Causeway, London Rd, St Georges Road and Walworth Road. I am interested in all data related to those affected on the actual road and those approaching it from aforementioned junctions.) This would apply to the period from December 2015 up until the most recent data available. Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 22 November 2019 asking for information about Elephant and Castle.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our Information Access Policy. You asked:

Under the FOI Act I would like to request the following data;

A list of road users (pedestrians or otherwise) killed or seriously injured whilst using the road commonly referred to as 'Elephant and Castle' - since the removal of the roundabout. (i.e. New Kent Road, A201 between junctions Meadow Row,  Newington Causeway, London Rd, St Georges Road and Walworth Road. I am interested in all data related to those affected on the actual road and those approaching it from aforementioned junctions.) This would apply to the period from December 2015 up until the most recent data available.

Please find attached Stage 1 and 2 Road Safety Audits for Elephant and Castle prior to the removal of the roundabout.

In accordance with the FOI Act, personal information has been redacted as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information under section 40(2). This exemption to your right of access is applied in accordance with TfL’s obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA).

The exemption applies because disclosure of personal information would be a breach of the DPA, specifically the first principle of the DPA which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful.

The London Collision map holds personal injury collision data for the London area from 2005 – 2018 which is the latest finalised data available and can be found here: https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/safety-and-security/road-safety/london-collision-map

In accordance with section 21 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply you with a copy of the requested information as it is already accessible to you elsewhere.
