We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-2575-2021

Thank you for your request of 15th March 2021 asking for TfL station entry and exit data.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

“I need to access the different stations passenger use (Exit and Entry) for tube, rail, including DLR and Overground and bus stations. From the earliest available data to the latest. The data provided on other requests is missing information.”

I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require.

The attached spreadsheet “FOI-2575-2021” provides monthly data for the years 2018 to February 2021, covering London Underground, London Overground and the DLR.

Note that London Underground data from 2010-2017 is published online here:

https://data.london.gov.uk/dataset/london-underground-performance-reports?resource=b6ab04fc-9062-4291-b514-7fa218073b4c

I attach a copy of the relevant spreadsheet - see “multi-year-station-entry-and-exit-figures”.

DLR figures from 2011 to 2018 can be found in the attached spreadsheet “Mar 2011 to Mar 2018 DLR”.

London Overground figures (along with other rail stations) are published online by the Office of Rail and Road here:

https://dataportal.orr.gov.uk/statistics/usage/estimates-of-station-usage

See the attached spreadsheet “table-1415-time-series-of-passenger-entries-and-exits-and-interchnages-by-station” which provides data back to 1997.

It is not entirely clear what information you are after regarding “bus stations”. All of our bus boarding data is at the level of individual bus stops rather than ‘bus stations’. If there are any particular bus stops that you are interested in please let me know and I can consider the matter further.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are considering submitting a further FOI request please think carefully about whether the request is essential at this current time, as answering FOI requests will require the use of limited resources and the attention of staff who could be supporting other essential activity. Where requests are made, please note that our response time may be impacted by the current situation.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
