Rail Grinding London Tube Lines Could you please provide the following information regarding grinding of the rails of the Tube Network. For each calendar year from and including 2015 to 2024 (to date) 1) How many meters of rail have been ground per year on each of the 11 Tube Lines (Bakerloo, Central, Circle, District, Hammersmith & City, Jubilee, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria, and Waterloo & City). 2) what is the total meterage ground in each calendar year for the 11 Tube lines

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 November 2024 asking for information about Rail Grinding on the LU Network.

 

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs) and our information access policy. 

 

I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require. You asked:

 

1) How many meters of rail have been ground per year on each of the 11 Tube Lines (Bakerloo, Central, Circle, District, Hammersmith & City, Jubilee, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria, and Waterloo & City). 

 

2) What is the total meterage ground in each calendar year for the 11 Tube lines?

  • Drivers for grinding (Rolling Contact Fatigue prevention, Squat-type defect management, Noise & vibrations management)
