We answered

Our Ref:         FOI-2563-1819

Thank you for your request received on 1 January 2019 asking for information about BBC filming on TfL property.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

The BBC have only paid once for filming on TfL property in the 2018 calendar year. The filming was for Wild Metropolis and took place in May 2018. Please note that the BBC often uses independent production companies to produce their programmes, however we do not know which of these programmes are for the BBC or other broadcasters.

In accordance with the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply some of the information requested as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information, under Section 43(2) of the Act.

In this instance the section 43(2) exemption has been applied to amount paid by the as disclosure would be likely to prejudice our commercial interests as well as those of the BBC. Prejudice would be likely to occur in the future when access to our property is requested for filming because it would be likely to result in a clustering of pricing based on how much other productions have paid. Disclosing this information could also be prejudicial to the BBC when paying for access to other properties for filming in the future, as disclosure would show how much they are willing to offer for access to a location.

The use of this exemption is subject to an assessment of the public interest in relation to the disclosure of the information concerned. We recognise the need for openness and transparency by public authorities, but in this instance ensuring that we are able to obtain the best value for public money outweighs the general public interest in increasing transparency of our processes.

If this is not the information you are looking for please feel free to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
