TfL Ref: FOI-2553-1617
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 18 March 2017 asking for information about assaults on staff.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.
Our staff work hard to serve the millions of customers who pass through the Tube and rail network every day and have the right to go about their work without fear or intimidation. We do not tolerate any form of verbal or physical assault and encourage staff and members of the public to report any instance of abuse whether physical or verbal. We work closely with the British Transport Police to fully investigate all reports and push for the strongest penalties against offenders.
Please see the tables attached detailing instances of physical assault against our staff. For operational staff, the majority of incidents take place at the gate-line/in the ticket hall and in many cases the underlying cause is around fare evasion/ticket issues. Please note that because we report incidents by victim, some entries may appear to be duplicate entries but that indicates that there is more than one victim during the same incident.
If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely
