FOI request detail

Barriers installed on the bridges over the Thames

Request ID: FOI-2552-1718
Date published: 11 December 2017

You asked

am interested to learn about why the measures were put in place. Are they a long term plan? How long will they be there for? When were plans for the barriers made? Where are the barriers obtained from? Why were barriers placed on the bridges after the London Bridge attack (June 2017) but not after the Westminster attack (March 2017)? What has the public response to the barriers been? How much do the barriers cost? Can you tell me exactly which bridges in London have barriers on (of the ones which you control) and when the barriers were installed? How long does it take to fit barriers on each bridge?

Thank you for your request received on 2 December 2017 asking for information about the barriers placed on some of London’s bridges.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and TfL’s information access policy.

Unfortunately we do not hold the information you have requested. The decision to install these barriers was made by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), not TfL. Therefore we believe you should make your request to the Security Coordinator Command at the MPS. They can be contacted via their website:

Please accept our apologies that we are unable to assist you further on this occasion.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
