Date published: 15 November 2023

You asked

Please can you provide the Major works and events plan related to the closure of the Tower bridge on Saturday 26th August 2023. In particular, the decision to suspend or partially suspend the congestion zone. I would like the congestion zone diversion plan with designated motorists exit points marked. Please supply details of temporary signage for motorists approaching Tower bridge from East Smithfield and diverted onto Tower Hill. Please supply images and locations of temporary signage (as per instruction to TFL contractors). This evidence will form part of an appeal process so prompt response would be appreciated.

An emergency maintenance work to Tower Bridge required a 24/7 closure over the August bank holiday weekend. All relevant stakeholders were notified of the works, including buses and local boroughs.

Around the area, there were signed diversion routes. The Congestion Charging zone was temporarily suspended to all vehicles using the diverted route. Please see a map of the diversion attached, showing the Congestion Charging signage.
