Thank you for your email received on 20 December 2018 asking about the cost of digital taxi top advertising.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked for:

the monthly / annual costs of hiring the roof of London Black Taxis for implementation of current / approved digital Taxi-tops

Transport for London (TfL) is the licensing and regulatory authority for licensed taxis and private hire vehicles in London.

We also approve all aftermarket adaptations, equipment and modifications to be fitted or installed in licensed vehicles to ensure that the proposed installation of the equipment/ modification is safe to use within a taxi environment, the installation method is safe and functional and it meets with the current regulations and legislation.

Our responsibility with regard to advertisements is to ensure that the content complies with current TfL and TPH advertising guidelines.

Any advertisement on taxis is achieved through contractual arrangements between the owner of the vehicle and the advertising company or their agent. TfL are not involved at any stage of this contractual process and therefore are unable to advise you or provide any quotes for taxi advertisements.

With regard to advertising pricing, you will need to discuss this matter with the advertising company or taxi top provider. You may find contact details of various advertisers in taxi related press magazines, such as ‘Taxi’, as they carry advertising agency adverts.

For your information, there are currently two taxi top devices that are approved for installation on TX4 model taxis in London, they are provided by Wedooh and Curb Mobility Limited.
