We answered
TfL Ref: 2495-2324 Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 16 October 2023 asking for information about Tube driver salaries. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. London’s Tube drivers have an important, safety-critical role in keeping London moving. London’s Tube drivers supported us through the pandemic and continue to play an important role in rebuilding our economy. For the safety-critical role they fill, they are paid a competitive salary which is in line with other train operators across the country. Train Operators and Instructor Operators have a fixed salary of £63,901 and £66,649 respectively. The small number of Train / Instructor Operators receiving over £90k is a result of them leaving service and receiving their holiday pay in lieu of taking the leave. Please note the following points in relation to the data we have provided below:
We have used financial year 2023 (1st April 2022 to 31st March 2023 inclusive) for the data.
This data is over a time period, during that time period, employees could have joined or left the grade part way through the year. To account for this only salary payments based on assignment to Train Operator or Instructor Operator jobs are included.
Employer National Insurance contributions have been removed as this is not a benefit to the employee.
The average overtime payment was £168.76.
