FOI request detail

impact on air quality of residents along the West Side of Chiswick High Road

Request ID: FOI-2491-2122
Date published: 25 February 2022

You asked

The traffic backs up nearly to the Chiswick Business Park. The cause of this is 'The TEMPORARY Bus gate' positioned close to the Italian Deli. I am writing to you as a group who, I am lead to understand, are the agents responsible, in part or wholly, for the decision to install the Bus gate. Please will you send to me, as a formal request under Freedom of Information, the modelling you carried out to assess the knock on impact on local residents and businesses from noise, pollution and congestion of the queues ( proof attached) the bus gate creates.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 29 January 2022.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:

Please will you send to me, as a formal request under Freedom of Information, the modelling you carried out to assess the knock on impact on local residents and businesses from noise, pollution and congestion of the queues (proof attached) the bus gate creates.

The introduction of the temporary Cycleway 9 scheme was informed through local junction modelling using LINSIG software and supported by some traffic reassignment testing using VISUM software regarding the proposed restriction around Turnham Green to understand how traffic pattern would vary. The localised junction modelling indicated there would be some eastbound queuing which would compromise access for buses into the Goldhawk Road bus lane and also increased queuing on the eastbound approach to Heathfield Terrace. Therefore a bus gate was implemented to allow traffic into these areas to be effectively managed in order to protect bus performance during the busiest periods. A scheme briefing note summary was produced in July 2020. This note includes modelling outputs and has been attached for your perusal.
