Money spent on posters

Request ID: FOI-2491-1617
Date published: 11 April 2017

You asked

How much money is spent per annum on posters (for example on trains and bus stops) informing us about improvements that TfL have already made? For example on the train I am currently sat in there is a poster telling me that there are "over 900 pedestrian countdown crossings" in London. How much money in advertising revenue is lost through these posters? Yours faithfully,

Thank you for your email received on 13 March 2017 asking for information about money spent on posters.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

Our advertising aims to make Londoners aware of the improvements we have made to the transport network in London. From April 2016 – March 2017 TfL invested £1.73m in media space to promote a wide range of delivered improvements including the launch of the night tube, accessibility improvements across the network, extensions and changes to bus routes during the day and our night time bus services as well as the availability of real time information tools such as wifi and twitter.

The advertising on our own network ran on a small number of non-commercial sites, so spaces that are not available to advertisers at all or on commercial sites that were not sold due to a lack of commercial demand. There were therefore no direct impacts on advertising revenue.

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
