As part of Transport for London’s (TfL) licensing application process, all applicants are required to undertake an ‘enhanced’ Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Following a review of TfL policy and discussion with the DBS, we only accept enhanced DBS checks performed by our contractor, GBGroup. As an exception, and where appropriate, we will accept enhanced checks performed by other taxi and private hire licensing authorities that are no more than 4 months old
Following a review of approximately 13,000 individual drivers and applicants (the maximum number who may have used a third party DBS service) we identified and wrote to 2,621 private hire licensees and 852 applicants informing them that they would need to obtain an enhanced DBS check with our service provider, GB Group.
As of 5 December 2017, we have suspended the licences of 916 of the 2,621 drivers who have failed to undertake a new enhanced DBS check via GB Group.
Of these, two drivers have received convictions subsequent to their original enhanced DBS check. We have taken appropriate licensing action against both drivers.
