TfL Ref: FOI-2463-1718

Thank you for your email received on 28 November 2017 regarding private hire applications.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our Information Access Policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:

Please could you list the number of companies that have applied for approval for a private hire operator licence over the past year, the names of the companies, and which have been successful thus far? Could you also provide a breakdown of the dates these applications were made?

Between 1 January 2017 and 30 November Transport for London (TfL) received 291 new operator applications. During this period 282 new licenses were issued in addition to 436 existing licences being renewed.

A spreadsheet containing information on those operators that received a licence during this period and the date their application was received is attached.

Please note that in accordance with Section 41 of the Freedom of Information Act, we are not obliged to provide information regarding applications that have not led to an operator being licensed and any applications that are currently be being processed.

Section 41 of the FOI Act is an exemption where information has been provided to a public authority in confidence. Although the private hire operator licence application form advises applicants that details of their licence, if granted, will be held on a public register, no indication is given that this information will be disclosed to the public prior to the grant of the licence. As applicants for a private hire operator licence have a reasonable expectation of confidentiality when they submit their application we are not obliged to provide this information.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
