Freedom of Information request - ULEZ impact on outer London Public Transport Hubs

Request ID: FOI-2457-1819
Date published: 07 May 2019

You asked

With the introduction of ULEZ in London next year and then rollout out to the North/South Circulars and eventually to the M25. What impact will this have, at each stage, on the parking at all Tube stations within Epping Forest area and what measures are being taken to ensure sufficient parking facilities exist at these stations to cater for the increase in people using public transport as suggested by the Mayor of London as an alternative to driving in to ULEZ for their onward journey.

We answered

Thank you for your request on 15 December.

The Ultra Low Emission Zone will mean that, from 8 April 2019, vehicles driving in central London will need to meet the toughest vehicle emission standards of any major city, or pay a charge. It will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year, within the same area as the current Congestion Charging Zone and in addition to the Congestion Charge.

For buses coaches and HGVs, emissions standards will apply London wide from October 2020.

In October 2021 the ULEZ will be expanded to an area roughly bounded by the North and South Circular Roads for all cars, vans and motorcycles. We are not at this stage planning a further expansion of the ULEZ for these vehicle types.

We do not expect any increase in the demand for parking at tube stations in Epping Forest as a result of the ULEZ at any stage.

Yours sincerely
