We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-2449-2122

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 27th January 2022 asking for entry and exit data for Northern Line stations.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.

Specifically you asked:

I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information from Transport for London. Please may you provide me with:

Weekly usage statistics, including entries and exits from station, for every station on the Northern Line between January 2018 and January 2022. Please include usage statistics for Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms Station between September 2021 and January 2022.”

I can confirm that we hold the information you require. Please see the attached spreadsheet that provides the requested information from calendar week 21 in 2018 to week 5 of 2022 (you may need to use the filter tool to sort the data by year / week / station etc. depending on exactly what information is of interest). The data is at the station level, and is not necessarily specific to the Northern Line alone (i.e. some stations serve other lines as well as the Northern Line). If the station is on the Northern Line then all entries and exits are provided. The data for the rest of 2018 prior to week 21 is exempt from disclosure under section 12 of the Freedom of Act, which applies where the cost of compliance would exceed the appropriate limit of £450. This data is stored on separate systems and would require us to draw information from multiple sources to bring it together. We do not believe that it would be possible to achieve this within the costs limit.

Note that you may also be interested in the data that can be found via the following section of our website - this is updated weekly and can be filtered by data and station, going back to the beginning of 2020:

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely,
