Request ID: FOI-2449-1920
Date published: 06 December 2019
You asked
A107 Amhurst Park speeding Camera
Can I under FOI request how many Speeding tickets were issued on this specific camera from when it was erected and installed? if a specific date is required from 01/01/2019 How many were challenged in total?
How many were successful dismissed?
Furthermore, what was the reason a speeding camera was set up on this particular spot?
Who holds and where can I access the information and documentation required to make this camera legal and lawful. (calibration - application - the blueprint - maintenance and the rest) ?
Would you also explain what is the minimum legal required distance one to able to set up a speeding camera from a sign informing change of speed?
What reminders are legally required by DfT to be erected before a speeding device,?
When and how did become legal to enforce 20mph limit on this road, was it a Judge's Order, or it falls under council statue?
And on what day was it applied?
Who granted the authority and what was the consultation and what was the final decision to apply the limit on this road

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 13 November 2019 asking for information about A107 Amhurst Park speeding Camera (Camera number 2586).
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked:
- Can I under FOI request how many Speeding tickets were issued on this specific camera from when it was erected and installed? if a specific date is required from 01/01/2019
How many were challenged in total?
How many were successful dismissed?
- Furthermore, what was the reason a speeding camera was set up on this particular spot?
- Who holds and where can I access the information and documentation required to make this camera legal and lawful. (calibration - application - the blueprint - maintenance and the
rest) ?
4. Would you also explain what is the minimum legal required distance one to able to set up a speeding camera from a sign informing change of speed?
5. What reminders are legally required by DfT to be erected before a speeding device,?
6. When and how did become legal to enforce 20mph limit on this road, was it a Judge's Order, or it falls under council statue?
And on what day was it applied?
7. Who granted the authority and what was the consultation and what was the final decision to apply the limit on this road.
Our numbered responses are below:
- The camera you have asked about at the junction of Amhurst Park and Hillside Road is not on the TfL Network therefore TfL do not hold the information you have requested. This junction is controlled by the London Borough of Hackney but it’s the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) who are the body who actually issue the speed tickets. You can contact them at: https://www.met.police.uk/foi-ai/accessing-information/.
- Camera 04/702586 Amhurst Park by Hillside Road was installed on 17 December 2015 by RedSpeed (Our Contractor). The original Gatso speed enforcement camera at this site was installed in December 2000 at the request of the borough based upon accident history. It was upgraded to a Redspeed digital camera monitoring eastbound traffic only and recommissioned on 17/12/2015 as part of the Safety Camera Replacement Programme.
- We do not hold this information. The calibration certificates and other documentation would be held by the MPS as they use the camera for enforcement.
- There is nothing in law around this issue. For fairness we have always agreed with the Metropolitan Police to allow at least 100m between the sign and the camera.
- Camera logo signs are advisory, and are not a legal requirement. They are placed as per the guidance based on best practice from the Department for Transport.
- We cannot locate a speed limit order for A107 Amhurst Park on our database. The London Borough of Hackney is the Highway Authority for this road / junction therefore we believe that the Order was probably requested by them. You may wish to contact them to request this information: https://hackney.gov.uk/foi-request.
- We do not hold this information, again as the Highway Authority is the London Borough of Hackney. They set the speed limit as confirmed by the relevant traffic order and the signage on site. Please contact them directly for further information: https://hackney.gov.uk/foi-request.
