We answered
TfL Ref: FOI-2444-1718
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 23 November 2017 asking for information about advertising.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked for:
- Please state the amount spent by Russia Today, or by any companies on behalf of Russia Today, on advertising on the TfL network.
Russia Today has recently commissioned three advertising campaigns on our estate. These campaigns were the first commissioned by RT on our estate in the last five years. Two campaigns were booked to appear on the Underground. The first of these ran from 9/10/17 until 22/10/17. The second began 23/10/17 and ran until 5/11/17. One campaign was booked for our bus shelter sites. This campaign ran from 9/10/17 until 5/11/17.
Please see below table containing the standard advertisement rate card issued to Russia Today for the three campaigns.

Disclosure of the final negotiated value of the advertising would prejudice TfL’s ability to maximise revenue from future advertising. The final negotiated value of the advertising is subject to exemption from disclosure under s43(2) of the Freedom of Information Act, as disclosure would be likely to prejudice our commercial interests by affecting our ability to negotiate the best possible price with potential advertisers. We consider that in this case the public interest supports withholding this information in order to protect our advertising revenue as we reinvest every pound of income in the transport network, to the benefit of fare and tax payers. Through sustained investment we are improving the transport network for the millions of people who rely on it everyday.
- Please state the amount spent by the Core Issues Trust, or by any companies on behalf of the Core Issues Trust, on advertising on the TfL network.
Our advertising partners have no record of any advertisements having been commissioned on our estate by the Core Issues Trust. Therefore there has been no spend.
- Please state the amount spent by the Palestine Mission to the UK or by any companies on behalf of the Palestine Mission to the UK, on advertising on the TfL network.
As with question 1, we are unable to provide a final negotiated value. However, I can confirm that the Palestine Mission commissioned one advertising campaign with a rate card value of £700.
