TfL escalator survey

Request ID: FOI-2438-1617
Date published: 24 March 2017

You asked

Hello, Can you share the full results of the escalator standing survey, as detailed here: http://www.gizmodo.co.uk/2017/03/the-results-are-in-the-holborn-escalator-trial-proves-that-it-is-better-to-stand-on-the-escalator-well-sometimes/ I can't see them on TfL's website. Additionally, can you share any documents produced as a result of this looking at the feasibility of implementing a standing rule more widely. (This will take longer than the first part of the request, I expect, so please don't wait until both parts are done before sending me the results for the first part.) Thank you!

We answered

TfL Ref: FOI-2438-1617

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7 March 2017 asking for information about the Holborn escalator trial.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

Please find attached the results of the Holborn escalator trials. We are intending to compile a comprehensive report which combines and analyses the two trials together. However, we do not yet have a date for when this is likely to be conducted and completed but we do have an intention to make this publically available on our website once the work has been completed.

Please note that in accordance with TfL’s obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) some personal data has been removed, as required by section 40(2) of the FOI Act. This is because disclosure of this personal data would be a breach of the DPA, specifically the first principle of the DPA which requires all processing of personal data to be fair and lawful. It would not be fair to disclose this personal information when the individuals have no expectation it would be disclosed and TfL has not satisfied one of the conditions of Schedule 2 of the Data Protection Act which would make the processing ‘fair’.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
