TfL Ref: FOI-2437-2122
Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 25th January 2022.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.
Specifically you asked:
“Please could you share the expense and (expected) income to TfL as a result of the collaboration with Adidas and Arsenal FC.” The information you have requested relates to a licensing deal with Adidas, who have launched a collection of apparel featuring TfL intellectual property (IP). We work with many companies globally who pay to use our IP on a wide range of goods, from souvenirs, through to apparel and homeware. As well as bringing in income via sales and/or an initial fee to use our IP on their product, unique and unusual collaborations raise awareness of how brands can work with us both through licensing but also across TfL’s advertising estate, generating additional income for TfL. All of this income is reinvested into public transport. In terms of your specific questions, any costs associated with the design, manufacture and distribution of these products, along with the implementation and promotion costs, were borne by the client. There has therefore been no expense to TfL. In terms of expected income, TfL has not quantified a final expected figure and therefore does not hold that information.
If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.
Yours sincerely,
