When will Thames Wharf DLR station open?

Request ID: FOI-2430-2223
Date published: 12 January 2023

You asked

Hey TfL, Today I wanted to ask about the DLR. When the DLR's Stratford branch was opened as part of the first stretch of the DLR in 1987, there were 2 spaces reserved for future stations to be built sometime later: - Pudding Mill Lane (which opened in 1996) - Langdon Park (opened 2008) Similarly, there has been 1 more station space that has been safeguarded during construction for a possible site of a future DLR stop; this is for Thames Wharf station on the Woolwich Arsenal branch that was opened between 2005-09 however, this station hasn't yet been constructed and opened with just its location safeguarded. It will be located between Canning Town & West Silvertown stations, and here's a link to an image of its planned site for your reference: https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/thames-wharf-dlr.jpg Hence, may I know when is Thames Wharf station going to be opened please? Thank You!

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 28 December 2022 asking for information about the DLR.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.

The designs for the proposed Thames Wharf station are in the process of being updated to ensure these fit in with the adjoining planned Thameside West residential development scheme which the station would serve.  At present TfL does not have funding to progress Thames Wharf station beyond this current stage of development.  Government funding and/or a developer contribution would be required for Thames Wharf station to be implemented.  At present such funding is not available and as consequence TfL are not able to provide timescales for the implementation of Thames Wharf.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
