Average speed restrictions on A217
Request ID: FOI-2421-1819
Date published: 07 January 2019
You asked
I would like to understand how the average speed restrictions works on the A217. The section of road where the monitoring operates covers several miles, goes through multiple major road junctions and roundabouts with several sets of cameras on route. Is the average speed monitored for each section or for the overall length of the route? How does it therefore work when you join part way into the monitored zone?

Thank you for your email received by Transport for London (TfL) on 12 December 2018, asking for information about average speed restrictions on A217.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. Unfortunately we do not hold the information you have requested. We do not have average speed cameras on the A217, only on the A2, A40, A406, A316 and A13.
The enforcement cameras on the A217 are a mixture of spot speed cameras and red light / speed on green cameras. Also along this route we have journey time monitoring cameras which are not used for enforcement. I am sorry I cannot help you further on this occasion.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
