FOI request detail

Zonal coverage of Oyster single fares

Request ID: FOI-2418-1617
Date published: 12 July 2017

You asked

F/on from FOI-1707-1617 Further to this request I have now spent time processing the data for a new application. During testing I have become aware of a (hopefully) small number of inconsistencies between the spreadsheet provided and the data returned by the single fare finder. I wonder whether I have been provided with the latest data? An example of the error is thus: Putney NR to Oval LU has 3 routes in both datasets. The single fare finder returns 0 (default), 1135 (via Vauxhall and Stockwell), and 1296 which reads"Via Zone 1 changing between National Rail and London Underground at Waterloo (or Clapham Junction and Victoria)". The spreadsheet agrees with routes 0 and 1135 but the third route is 2003 which reads "Via Zone 1 changing between London Underground and National Rail at Blackfriars, Cannon Street, Charing Cross, London Bridge, Victoria, Waterloo or Waterloo East". The newer description does seem to better describe the likely journey hence I wonder whether it is a recent change? If so I would be grateful if I could have an updated spreadsheet, preferably just with the changed entries. For information you can see the first use of this data in my Oyster Fare Finder at http://www.oyster-rail.org.uk/fares-guide/oyster-fare-finder/. It describes the zonal coverage of each route/fare. In the example listed above the second alternative route is missing the zonal coverage because the route descriptions do not match.

Thank you for your email received on 22 February 2017 asking for information about Oyster fares.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

Your previous request (FOI-1707-1617) was submitted before the 2 January 2017 fares revision so any comparison between journey data supplied in 2016 and data currently held by the Single Fare Finder would be problematic. Please find attached a new version of the spreadsheet showing the low and high zones for each Single Fare Finder journey. This should be in line with the current Single Fare Finder data.

If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for some reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.

If you are not satisfied with this response please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
