Thank you for your request received by us on 24 October 2019.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. You asked:
In the week starting 23/09/19 how many PHVs (whose licence had expired during this week) did not renew their licence & how many vehicles had reach age limit (so could not renew), and of them numbers how many TFL PHV identification roundels were returned/surrendered to TFL
In the week ending 23 September 2019, 545 private hire vehicle licences expired. Of those vehicles, 45 were ten years old and of those vehicles 5 were recorded as having returned their licences at the time of your request.
To comply with air quality standards, all taxis and PHVs must be within certain age limits to be licensed. However, a few exemptions mean some vehicles can be licensed for an additional period.
Where a vehicle licence has been suspended or revoked, these are pursued by our compliance team to retrieve all the relevant documentation. For expired licences we write to the vehicle owners highlighting the importance of returning the documentation.
If you have any queries or would like to discuss your request, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely
