Thank you for your request received by us on 5 November 2019 asking for information about the Liverpool Street to Enfield Town branch of the London Overground network.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked for:

the date when the new fleet of trains will be introduced to the Liverpool Street - Enfield Town branch of the London Overground.

Can you please also clarify if and when the service will be increased to four trains per hour all day. The current service is two per hour off peak and four per hour during peak times

Rory O’Neill, TfL’s General Manager for London Overground, announced in a press release issued in relation to these services that:

“We are working hard to introduce new state-of-the-art electric trains on London Overground routes into Liverpool Street station. The introduction of new trains on these routes is the largest and most complex so far on the London Overground network and is taking slightly longer than initially anticipated due to ongoing software development. Based on the latest information from the train manufacturer, Bombardier Transportation, we expect to get the first trains in service in early 2020. These new trains will provide customers with more capacity to meet growing demand and many other improvements including walk through carriages, USB charging points, free Wi-Fi, improved live travel information screens and more wheelchair spaces.”

In the meantime, we are working closely with train maintenance teams on ways to ensure the existing trains can continue to operate a reliable service for our customers.

A number of lower mileage trains, that are no longer needed on TfL Rail services, are also being moved to further strengthen reliability on these routes.

We can advise that the frequency of trains on this part of the network will stay the same.If this is not the information you are looking for, or if you are unable to access it for any reason, please do not hesitate to contact me.Jasmine Howard
