TfL Ref: 2342-2223 Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 15 December 2022 asking for information about the cost of electricity consumption for operating the London Underground network. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold some of the information you require. You asked for: the cost of electricity consumption for operating the London Underground from July - December 2022 compared to July - December 2020 We can advise that from July 2020 to December 2020, the cost of electricity consumption for operating the London Underground during this period was £69,137,037. As our electricity accounts are billed in arrears, not all consumption has been invoiced as yet, therefore we have provided an estimated cost from July 2022 to December 2022 of £96,758,848 Furthermore, through careful strategic forward planning of its energy requirements, TfL has pre-purchased supplies and 'locked-in' prices in advance via the Crown Commercial Service until March 2023. We also have a significant proportion of ourenergy costs protected until 2025.
The reduction in public transport services as a result of the pandemic led to a decrease in TfL's overall electricity consumption in 2020/21, compared to previous years.
