FOI request detail

the number of changes your web team made to TfL timetables for 2016

Request ID: FOI-2336-1617
Date published: 15 March 2017

You asked

I wish to make the following FOI request: the number of changes your web team made to TfL timetables for 2016. And how long after a timetable is changed before it is published on the web. I am asking specifically for: All changes made to tube timetables published online – Each time a change was made: 1. To which line 2. To which trains please list the times that changed – "a train with an origin of X (e.g. first station) and departure time from origin of Y (e.g. 0800) with a destination of Z (e.g. termination point/last stop)" 3. The date which this change was made and published online 4. The date that an official announcement was first made that the train timetable would change (this date is almost certainly earlier in time than date given at point 3) 5. Where on the web the change was made (e.g. https://tfl.gov.uk/tube/timetable/metropolitan/ ) I am asking for this information in written form and response via email. This is for tube trains in 2016 only.

We answered

TfL Ref: 2336-1617

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 23 February 2017 asking for information about the number of changes your web team made to TfL timetables for 2016, and how long after a timetable is changed before it is published on the web.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy.  I can confirm we do hold some of the information you require.

To provide the information you have requested would exceed the ‘appropriate limit’ of £450 set by the Freedom of Information (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004.

Under section 12 of the FOI Act, we are not obliged to comply with a request if we estimate that the cost of determining whether we hold the information, locating and retrieving it and extracting it from other information would exceed the appropriate limit. This is calculated at £25 per hour for every hour spent on the activities described.

We have estimated that it would considerably exceed the appropriate limit to provide a response to this request. This is because the information you have requested is not centrally recorded or tracked. Therefore the only way to locate, extract and collate the information you have requested would be to manually search through thousands of emails held by the relevant timetabling teams across the time period you have requested to locate any information relevant to your request and compile accordingly. Such a process would vastly exceed the cost limit.

To help bring the cost of responding to your request within the £450 limit, you may wish to consider narrowing its scope so that we can more easily locate, retrieve and extract the information you are seeking. If you want to refine your request or make a Freedom of Information Act request in future, please bear in mind that the Freedom of Information Act allows you to request recorded information held by us. You should identify the information that you want as clearly and concisely as you can and you might also consider limiting the time period covered by your request and to a specific line or part of a line if you are interested in a specific service. However, please note that the above process is required to complete any such requests regardless of the time period or line specified as so this should be borne in mind before you submit a further request.

Please note that we will not be taking further action until we receive your revised request.

In the meantime, if you have any queries or would like to discuss your request, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely
