Our Ref: FOI-2332-2425
Thank you for your request received on 23 October 2024 asking for information about fatalities incurred while travelling on a bus.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.
The requested information is not something that it is possible to report directly on currently. Our ability to provide the requested information is compounded by an ongoing technical issue due to the recent cyber attack. Therefore, currently in order to locate and collate the information you have requested we would need to extract and manually review the details held against each individual incident. Therefore this request will currently take your request in excess of £450 to provide a response. You may wish to submit the request again in a few weeks’ time when hopefully we will be able to respond positively.
Please note that we publish information on all fatalities that occur involving buses, which can be found here that may be of some assistance:
https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publications-and-reports/bus-safety-data
From a formal FOI perspective, your request is being refused under section 12 of the FOI Act, on the basis that we estimate that the cost of determining whether we hold the information, locating and retrieving it and extracting it from other information would exceed the appropriate limit. This is calculated at £25 per hour for every hour spent on the activities described. We have estimated that your request would cost in excess of £450 to provide a response to your current request.
Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.
Yours sincerely
