I would like to know the difference in expected annual expenditure now that you are operating the ferry compared to when Briggs were operating it.

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 February 2021 asking for information about the cost of operating our ferry services.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:
Cost for operating the ferry service: I would like to know the difference in expected annual expenditure now that you are operating the ferry compared to when Briggs were operating it.
In summary, the cost for TfL to operate the Woolwich Ferry will be comparable to the costs under Briggs Marine Ltd but a significantly improved product, incorporating higher levels of reliability and resilience will be delivered to our customers. For 2019/20 the actual costs were £6.4m. The projected cost of the ferry in 2021/22 is £7.4m. Please note we have provided the cost for 2019/20 rather than 2020/21 due to the issues in comparing across the period of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is also important to note that a like for like service (based on February 2020 plans) would have cost more than the in-house scenario with the planned demands for extra performance/reliability.
