FOI request detail

Land owned by TfL

Request ID: FOI-2283-1718
Date published: 04 January 2018

You asked

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 I seek the following information about a portion of land owned by TfL in Shadwell between Cable Street, Cannon Street Road and the Fenchurch Street railway arches, which is currently the subject of a campaign from residents to be turned into a Community Land Trust. I understand if some of this information is not available yet, but request you to answer as many of the points as possible within your cost limit. 1. What is TFLs estimated valuation of the land? 2. If TFL has made a decision on the land, details of it. 3. Is TFL talking to private developers about the land? If so, which developers. 4. How much money has TFL made from the sale of land in the borough of Tower Hamlets within the past 36 months? 5. Records of these sales (who land was sold to) in as much detail as possible within your cost limit. I would prefer to receive this information electronically, preferably as a data set, eg. in Excel, NOT as a PDF.

TfL Ref: FOI-2283-1718

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 14 November 2017 asking for information about TfL land.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require. You asked:

  1. 1. What is TFLs estimated valuation of the land?

In accordance with the FOI Act, we are not obliged to supply the information requested as it is subject to a statutory exemption to the right of access to information under section 43(2) which exempts information where disclosure would be likely to prejudice commercial interests. Our estimate of the lands value is commercially sensitive as we are shortly to embark on a marketing campaign to dispose of the land and provision of this information would prejudice our ability to get best value.

The use of this exemption is subject to an assessment of the public interest in relation to the disclosure of the information concerned. Whilst we recognise that there is a public interest in transparency, we feel that there is a greater public interest in ensuring that our commercial interests are protected to ensure that we continue to be able to obtain best value for money.

  2. 2. If TFL has made a decision on the land, details of it.

  3. 3. Is TFL talking to private developers about the land? If so, which developers.

4. How much money has TFL made from the sale of land in the borough of Tower Hamlets within the past 36 months?

5. Records of these sales (who land was sold to) in as much detail as possible within your cost limit.

TfL has not sold any land in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets during this time period.
