Please can you confirm whether Ealing Council is currently eligible to bid for additional funding for active travel measures from TfL. The council had been told previously that further funding was on hold pending discussions with TfL and the Department for Transport.

TfL Ref: 2275-2122 Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 7 January 2022 asking for information about active travel funding for Ealing Council. Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:Please can you confirm if Ealing Council was required to repay any funding to TfL following the withdrawal of temporary active travel measures this summer. (Please include details about the amounts of funding repaid.) Please can you confirm whether Ealing Council is currently eligible to bid for additional funding for active travel measures from TfL. The council had been told previously that further funding was on hold pending discussions with TfL and the Department for Transport. There were no repayments required. TfL funding is claimed only after agreed works are completed following an allocation of funding. However, TfL did not cover the costs of removing schemes in Ealing. Following the removal of schemes, funding was withheld from the borough whilst assessments were made as to the ongoing level of commitment to quality active travel schemes. All boroughs are eligible to request funding for the next financial year. As we currently have no agreed funding for the future, with the current funding deal for TfL only going up to 4 February 2022, no decisions have been made on any funding that might be allocated to any borough for financial year 2022/23 and beyond. As per recently updated Government guidance, the removal of schemes in Ealing will be a factor taken into consideration when any future bids are considered.
