You asked

Please can I have the performance statistics for the 07:48am London Overground services from London Liverpool Street to Chingford for the last year. I board the train at Clapton and I experience delays on the service every single day (sometimes cancellations) and want to see its performance.

We answered

Our ref: FOI-2265-1819/GH

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 27 November 2018 asking for information about London Overground.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold the information you require.

We have looked at performance statistics as follows:

30 October 2017 – 7 December 2018

Monday to Friday services only

Departs Liverpool St @ 07:48

Arrives Clapton @ 07:57

Arrives Chingford @ 08:15

  • Over the above time period (58 weeks) there have been 278 services of the 07:48 from Liverpool St to Chingford.

  • 2 trains have been fully cancelled

  • 6 have been part cancelled.

  • 278 services arrived at Clapton -  of these 87% arrived late which equates to 242 services.  36 services arrived on time.  The average arrival delay was 2.67 mins.

  • 278 services departed Clapton - of these 96% departed late which equates to 267 services.  11 services departed on time.  The average departure delay was 3.13 mins.

  • 25 services arrived at Clapton on time but departed late.

  • There have also been 52 T3 failures on this route – mainly due to NR Infrastructure and Greater Anglia incidents. (T3 is a punctuality measure as follows – Any service that fails to arrive at its final destination within THREE MINUTES of its scheduled time or is cancelled, part-cancelled or fails to stop is treated as a punctuality failure.  Punctuality is measured by T3 – a train terminating within 3 minutes of booked arrival time).

  • The average delay arriving at Clapton is 2.67 minutes and the average delay departing Clapton is 3.16 minutes as shown below.

  • The latest arrival was 20 minutes late.

The main reason for late arrival at Clapton is due to the service leaving Liverpool Street late which then has a knock on affect with further delays due to passenger loadings.

We are aware of the level of delays which have occurred, most causes of lateness originate with Network Rail or Great Anglia.  We do have monthly meetings with NR to discuss performance, and NR Anglia do have an extensive programme of works in the pipeline for the Liverpool Street area to try to address some of the recurring issues.
