Route 316

Request ID: FOI-2263-1617
Date published: 05 May 2017

You asked

During February 2016 I had requested data regarding London bus route 316 (see attached link to previous request - https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/route_316#incoming-777548) I would like to follow up the response from TfL on point 7 which reads: " 7) Are there any plans to alter/develop the service/routing of the 316 in anyway? Yes; the route is planned to be double decked in October 2016. We are currently reviewing the running times of buses between 08:00 and 09:00 to see if improvements can be made for passengers commuting in the AM peak." As of February 2017, Route 316 is still being operated by Metroline using single decker buses. Please can you provide the below data; 1) why were double decker buses not introduced to route 316 in October 2016? 2) the expected date of double decker introduction on the 316. 2b) if double deckers are not planned to be introduced for this route please detail the reasoning. 3) Are there any further plans to alter/develop the service or routing of the 316 in anyway?

FOI Ref: 2263-1617

Thank you for your email received by us on 16 February 2017 asking for information about Bus Route 316.

We have considered your request in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our Information Access Policy. I can confirm we do hold the information you require.

The new contract (which began in October 2016) specified the use of 2009 single deck buses. We reviewed the usage of the 316 ahead of the contract being tendered, and found that the capacity was well matched to the demand offered. There was a single point in the day when buses did become busier (the AM peak at Cambridge Avenue, Kilburn High Road station, towards White City, and the PM peak at Kensal Rise, Banister Road and Cambridge Avenue, Kilburn High Road station, towards Cricklewood) however this could be met by reworking the schedule to provide a short headway during this period, and the existing capacity and scheduling was sufficient for the rest of the service.

It should be stressed that the passenger usage was specifically reviewed ahead of the contract to ensure that the service continued to offer a suitable amount of capacity. At this time, we don’t have any further plans to alter the 316, however we will keep the route under review, and if any issues arise, we will look at how best to resolve them.

If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to appeal.

Yours sincerely,
