I would be grateful if you could provide me the following information about the costs of replacing and maintaining Santander Bikes, previously described as Barclay Bikes or "Boris Bikes". 1. How many Santander bikes have been reported stolen, per year, since 2014 (including the most recent data for 2017 if possible)? 2. Thank you for your email received by us on 13 November 2017 asking for information about the Santander Cycle Hire scheme.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:

1. How many Santander bikes have been reported stolen, per year, since 2014 (including the most recent data for 2017 if possible)?
2. How many Santander bikes have been reported damaged, per year, since 2014 (including the most recent data for 2017 if possible)?
3. How much money has Transport for London have spent replacing stolen bikes, per year, since 2014 (including the most recent data for 2017 if possible)?
4. How much money has Transport for London have spent repairing stolen bikes, per year, since 2014 (including the most recent data for 2017 if possible)?

I can advise that any bikes that are not currently available for use are categorised as decommissioned, which are broken into different categories:

Decommissioned stolen - those which have been reported as stolen and remain missing.
Decommissioned broken - those which are beyond economical repair, although parts are often used to repair others.

Around half of all stolen bikes are eventually recovered.

Please see the following table; this data is accurate up until August 2017.
