Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 6 February 2021 asking for information about Knowledge of London examiners.
Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy. I can confirm that we hold the information you require. You asked:
What training does an examiner of the taxi knowledge of London go through before they can become an examiner.
What ongoing training are they required to undertake. What qualifications are required for the role
Applicants wanting to become a Knowledge of London examiner are required to have a green badge (an all London license) and have at least 2 years’ experience driving a taxi. All applicants go through a formal application and interview process to ensure the best candidate for the role is selected.
Once recruited, examiners are required to maintain a high level of topographical knowledge and are allocated route review days in order to review new places of interest, look at road changes, confirm current guidelines and share best practice. Knowledge on London examiners may also review passenger complaints regarding routes taken in a licensed taxi.
