You asked

I would be very grateful if you could confirm when the current advertising contract between McDonalds and KFC advertising campaigns end on the bus stops & the London Underground? I would also be grateful if you could confirm the amount McDonalds & KFC paid for their advertising campaign and the length of the contracts. Could you also please confirm if these advertising contracts are to be renewed or are ongoing and will be continuing? Thanks

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 23 November 2018 asking for information about advertising contracts with McDonalds and KFC.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that we do hold some of the information you require.

Transport for London do not have an advertising contract with KFC or McDonalds. We have contracts with our advertising partners, including JCDecaux and Exterion, who sell advertising space to brands and then pay us in a variety of different ways.

Exterion, who are contracted to manage advertising on the Underground network, are currently running one campaign by McDonalds. JCDecaux, who are contracted to manage advertising on TfL bus shelters, are currently running 433 KFC and 1479 McDonalds advertisements. We do not hold information on the price paid for this advertising space, as this price is subject to negotiations between Exterion Media and JCDecaux and the advertisers themselves.

From 25 February 2019, advertising foods that are high in fat, salt or sugar on our estate will be restricted. This does not mean that McDonalds and KFC are banned or unable to advertise, but it means that they will only be able to place advertisements that promote products that comply with this policy.  More information can be found here: https://www.london.gov.uk/press-releases/mayoral/ban-on-junk-food-advertising-on-transport-network-0

If this is not the information you are looking for please do not hesitate to contact me.
